woodthatthereboxooriscoveredwithburningwood.
Afterthewoodisburningwellforaboutveminutes,putthe
woodaircontrolsinthedownpositionandslidethecoalair
controltotheright.Thismakestheprimaryairowupthrough
thegratesasisrequiredforcoalburning.
Nextaddalayerofcoalontopofthewood.Continueburning
untilthelayerofcoalisturningredandigniting.Itispossible
tospeedthisprocessbyopeningtheashdoor,butneverfor
morethanveminutesatatime.
Operationwiththeashdooropenformorethanveminutes
willoverrethestoveandmaycausedamagetothestove.
Neverleavethestoveunattendedwiththeashdooropen.
After the layer of coal is burning, a second layer may be
added.Afterthesecondlayerisburning,morelayersmaybe
added. Do not add coal above the rebricks or grate bars.
The stove is hot while in operation. Keep children,
clothing and furniture away. Contact may cause skin
burns.
Asyoubegintooperateyourstoveathighertemperatures,
youwillnotice a“hot”or unpleasantsmell;this isjustthe
paintgoingthroughthecuringprocess,andwilldisappear
afterafewres.
Overring
Avoidoverringyourstove.Thisisapotentiallyhazardous
situationwhichcanleadtotheoverheatingofcombustible
walloroormaterials,damagetothestove,andinextreme
cases, cause a re. Overring is caused by:Too much
air owing through the stove too quickly. You may have
inadvertentlyleftthebottomdooropen.Or,Notkeepingup
withroutinemaintenance,suchascheckingdoorgasketsfor
wear.Thechimneymayhaveexcessivedrawordraft,which
canberemediedbyinstallingabarometricdamper
Overringresultsinexcessivefuelconsumption,andmay
causepartsofthestoveorchimneyconnectortoglowred.
Ifyounoticesignsofoverring,reducetheairsupplytothe
re,andreviewtheMaintenancesectioninthismanual.Do
notburnthestovecontinuouslyatthemaximumsetting.If
maximumheatisrequireddayafterday,thestoveistoosmall
fortheareayouaretryingtoheat.
Never leave the stove unattended if either the ash or load
door is open. Overring may result.
Intheeventofachimneyre,callyourlocalredepartment;
makesureeveryoneissafelyoutofthehouse.Reducetheair
intakeofthestoveasmuchaspossibleusingtheaircontrol
lever.Donotthrowwateronthere;thiscancausestove
damageandcreateanevenmoredangeroussituation.Have
yourchimneyprofessionallycleanedandinspectedbefore
resumingburninginyourstove.
